Quails
Jumbo Pharaoh is a meat-and-egg Japanese quail (Coturnix japonica) weighing 400 to 450 g, making it the largest line in our flock. It was created from the best breeding lines from Hungary, Austria, and Slovakia and serves as the foundation line - Jumbo Pharaohs are the starting point for every color variant and the primary source for gene pool renewal and maintaining Jumbo size across all lines. We give this line the most attention of all, as the body weight, egg size, and hardiness of the entire flock depend on it.
The Pharaoh quail represents the original wild coloring of Japanese quails. These birds are characterized by their natural, wild coloration, considered the standard color among breeders.
Pharaoh-colored quails have brown plumage evenly distributed across the body. Fine golden vertical stripes appear on the wings and back. Both sexes have a thin white-golden stripe encircling the lower part of the head.
This natural coloring is especially valuable in breeding, where it serves as a reference point when comparing with other color mutations.
"The size of our quails and their eggs is limited by their overall health."
We do not aim to increase the size of our quails at any cost for the sake of producing the largest possible eggs and the most meat. An oversized quail will never be truly healthy, and an egg that is too large may be impossible for the bird to lay, which can lead to premature death.
Internationally, this variant is known as Pharaoh, which in Slovak translates to Faraón. Due to its natural coloring, the Pharaoh color variant of the Japanese quail is often referred to as brown, standard, or wild type.
